Position: Family Law Attorney

Summary:
The Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice (LACLJ) seeks a part-time (60-70%) Attorney to assist survivors of domestic violence who are receiving benefits under the CalWORKs program. The Attorney will primarily assist low-income clients in family law matters, including custody and visitation, child support, spousal support, and domestic violence restraining orders.
LACLJ has been providing free legal assistance to low-income residents of Los Angeles for over 35 years and currently provides assistance in family, housing, and immigration (U-Visa, VAWA, and SIJS only) law.
Qualifications:
- J.D. degree from an ABA accredited law school.
- Active membership in the California State Bar.
- Demonstrated knowledge of family law with one to three years litigation experience. (Housing Law knowledge a plus)
- Fluency in written and spoken Spanish.
- Previous experience working with domestic violence survivors.
- Demonstrated commitment to public interest work.
- Excellent legal writing and oral advocacy skills.
- Ability to work successfully with people from diverse backgrounds.
Essential Functions:
- Conduct client intakes and case assessments.
- Represent clients in negotiation settlements, court hearings and trials.
- Perform legal research, draft legal documents and conduct discovery.
- Coordinate with social service providers to conduct community outreach and education.
- Develop materials relating to community education and outreach events.
Rate of Pay: $25 per hour/25 hours per week
