VAWA and U Visas: A Fundamentals Training

This Training is Free for California Department of Social Services (CDSS) Immigration Services contractors and their subcontractors and pro bono attorneys.

This training is for those who are new to immigration law and/or new to VAWA and the U visa.

VAWA Self-Petitioning Fundamentals (MCLE: 2.75 CA)
9:00-12:00pm (registration begins at 8:30am)

VAWA allows an abused spouse or child of a U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident or an abused parent of a U.S. Citizen to self-petition for lawful status in the United States, receive employment authorization, and access public benefits. This training will cover the eligibility requirements for both self-petitioning and adjustment of status under VAWA, the self-petitioning process, the benefits of VAWA self-petitioning, and practice tips for screening and assisting clients.

U Visa Fundamentals (MCLE: 2.75 CA)
1:30-4:30pm (registration begins at 1:00pm)

Immigrant victims of certain crimes who have been helpful in a criminal investigation or prosecution may qualify for U non immigrant status (also known as a U visa) that can lead to a green card. This training will cover the U visa eligibility requirements, application procedures, law enforcement certification strategies, and practice tips for screening and assisting clients.
