Dear Friends,

After seven incredible years as the Executive Director of the Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice (LACLJ), I have decided to leave LACLJ at the end of July.  LACLJ has never been stronger, so I believe this is the right time to make way for the next leader to build on our foundation and continue the mission of LACLJ – to fight for the rights of vulnerable families and advocate for a more just legal system.  I am so proud of what the Board of Directors, staff and volunteers have accomplished these past seven years.  Despite the Great Recession, LACLJ has thrived – the budget and the staff have doubled, we have established reserves, and have recruited exceptionally talented staff and volunteers.  LACLJ has become a leader in the field of legal services and to low income families in California.  I know that this is based on the tenacity and dedication of every person involved with LACLJ.

I am truly grateful for all the support LACLJ has received – from donors like you, our partner agencies, sister legal aid organizations and foundations that believe in our model of service.  Through your support LACLJ has expanded its programs and services to serve the most vulnerable families in Los Angeles – victims of violence, teens, and recent immigrants.  And like our clients, I am so thankful for all the opportunities I have been given during my time at LACLJ.  It has been my honor and privilege to lead the incredible staff of LACLJ who dedicate themselves to the ideals of justice, equity and safety.  I would like to express my gratitude to the many individuals who supported me personally and professionally.

Finally, I am so pleased to announce that the Board of Directors has appointed Brandy Davis to serve as the Interim Executive Director.  For the past three years, Brandy has served as Managing Attorney at LACLJ leading the Shriver Family Law Project where she has done a tremendous job.  I have full confidence Brandy will continue to lead LACLJ forward while the Board of Directors conducts a search later this year for the next permanent Executive Director of LACLJ.

Best,

Hellen
