Los Angeles, a city of hopes and dreams, but for many the reality of life bring a different kind of obstacle where it’s a struggle to survive let alone to dream. There is an overview of the landscape of Los Angeles. Street signs and houses pass by. A woman is sitting on the sidewalk. Another woman is walking on the street.
Hello! My name is Lucia Baez. I am 43 years old and a mother of three.  A woman is sitting on a couch speaking to us.
Just a few years ago, I was a victim of domestic violence, and I was undocumented.  There is a photo of the woman, Lucia Baez, and her three children. Lucia is sitting on the couch speaking to us.
I didn’t where to go until I found the Law Center. Lucia is walking on the street towards the law center.
They changed my life. Lucia is sitting on the couch speaking to us.
At the Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice, we provide free family and immigration law services for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. The Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice Building in Los Angeles is shown. Lucia walks up towards the reception inside the Law Center.
A nonprofit law firm, we assist survivors during their most painful moments through the entire process of achieving justice. Lucia walks up to a desk and sits down.
But services don’t stop with a court order. Our team of social workers connects clients to therapy, shelter, and housing. The LALJC website is shown. Lucia sits with another woman at a round table talking.
My name is Adel Carmona. I’m 24 years old and I’m a survivor of domestic violence and a mother of a two-year-old. Before I got help, I was in an abusive relationship with my son’s father. I was really confused once it started to get physical. I needed to figure out who turn to and where to go to find out information on how to go about our situation.  A woman, Adel Carmona, is sitting and talking to us. There is a photo of Adel and her son. The scene shifts and Adel is sitting and talking to us again.
I got referred to someone from LACLJ, and they were able to help me out and put me on the right path. If it weren’t for the center, I really don’t know where I’d be today. My son could have lost his mom. Adel is still sitting and talking to us. Adel is sitting in the waiting room inside the law center and a woman leads her inside. Adel sits with another woman in an office.
Since receiving the help with LACLJ, I’ve been able to pursue one of my dreams which dancing. For all the help that LACLJ has given up, I’ll be forever grateful. A photo with Adel and her son is shown. Another photo with Adel at the ocean is shown. Adel is dancing on a stage with others.
We represent the countless people who have received help from LACLJ. Adel speaks directly to us.
So we ask you, please, help support their efforts. Adel and Lucia are sitting and speaking directly to us.
We all need a chance. A chance to live. A chance to survive. And maybe even one day, a chance to dream. Lucia walks out a door smiling. Adel is dancing.

Our Services

Our History

Founded in 1973, the Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice (LACLJ) has provided legal advocacy to low-income and primarily immigrant and Latino populations in Los Angeles for over 40 years. In its early years, the organization played a historic role on a range of social justice issues related to racial discrimination, police brutality, school desegregation, and the illegal involuntary sterilization of Latina women. Over time, the agency evolved to focus on direct services and, beginning in the late 1990s, greatly expanded its work for victims of domestic violence.
